Suttree Landing Park

Along the Tennessee River South Waterfront, the City of Knoxville initiated a Master Plan to redevelop abandoned or unused properties. The Master Plan includes Suttree Landing Park – a 5-acre park which redevelops a previous brownfield classified industrial site.

Prior to 2009 the City of Knoxville worked with a national firm for help to create a plan for a waterfront park. The plan was completed but not constructed and was retained for the city’s future use. In 2013 Cannon & Cannon, Inc. (CCI) was directed, by the City of Knoxville, to lead a team of 8 consultants to review the plans and provide value-engineered recommendations, alternatives, construction drawings and specifications which provided locally available native materials, products and species and constructability report and budget in order to re-initiate the project for construction.

  • Being a brownfield site, the park encountered unexpected environmental and riverfront challenges during construction which led back to CCI’s design team to provide additional engineering expertise by continuing the design even during construction phase.
  • Since the City utilized the team of consultants for construction engineering inspection, the contractor was able to overcome these challenges with cost-effective solutions.
  • Suttree Landing Park gets irrigation via a pumping system from the Tennessee River contributing to the park’s sustainability.
